Featured Exhibit

The earliest treatment of a vascular disorder dates to the Greek surgeon Antyllus in the second century AD who performed proximal and distal ligation for the treatment of aneurysms followed by evacuation of the contents in the sac.  Other early surgeons’ contributions include Ambroise Paré’s ligature of the arteries on the battlefield of the French army in the 16^th century and John Hunter’s advancement of this technique by placing ligatures closer to the aneurysms in the 18^th century.
